The 22nd November 2016 was the darkest day ever in the Nash family.
Toni — our daughter, sister, wife and best friend — was diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Daily life for the family ground to a halt; how could this be true? How could someone with so much to offer be affected by such a disease?
Toni passed away on May 25th 2017, 6 months and 3 days after she was diagnosed.
Toni had dedicated her life to the care of sick children and as a senior paediatric staff nurse; she was loved and adored by her young patients, this was abundantly clear when so many of them sent such wonderful messages on her wedding day and at her funeral.
During Toni's treatment the family needed to focus on something; making new memories with Toni and celebrating her life seemed to make sense and gave us all something to work toward as a family.
Where could we start? Well, how about the beginning ...
Toni was born in Germany when the family was serving with the British Army. Toni lived in Germany for around 16 years and growing up there was fun as we moved from town to town. Why not revisit those places where she was born, went to school, played, and the place she first started work.
We could have hopped over on a plane and driven around over a couple of days, but we needed something more, something memorable, something challenging: so why not make it into a bike ride and tour between locations over the course of a week!
It’s going to be a great challenge and wonderful way to raise money for St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich.
It costs approximately £3,850 to care for someone in a Hospice bed for 24 hours. We want to raise money to support our local hospice and thank them for the support they have, and will be giving us. Please take a few minutes to donate through their website. Thank you.
